This mountain boy from Himachal Pradesh is a natural singer and a quick learner too. Mohit, had done his masters in Geology, and was actually studying in Delhi with the ambition of becoming an ad copywriter. But music beckoned as a full time career, and as lead singer of the band ‘Silk Route’, Mohit shot to fame with the popular song ‘Dooba Dooba Rehta Hoon’. This was followed by a series of successful music albums. Mohit has also rendered his voice to the popular song ‘Khoon Chala’ from the super hit movie ‘Rang De Basanti’. Besides singing, Mohit also plays some musical instruments like the guitar and flute. He is an adventure freak and also enjoys cooking.

Mohit Chauhan is an Indian playback singer. He started his career with one of the successful Indipop bands, Silk Route in 1998. He released two albums with Silk Route titled 'Boondein' and 'Pehchan'. When the band got dissolved in 2008, Chauhan made his first solo album called 'Kalaam' for which he composed the music and also wrote the lyrics. He was also a part of the television reality series Mission Ustaad on the entertainment channel 9X.

Early Life

Mohit Chauhan was born on 11th March, 1966 in Nahan in Sirmaur district of the Himachal Pradesh state of India. He attended St. Xavier's School in Delhi and again moved to Himachal Pradesh to complete his further education. He also got masters in Geology from the Dharamshala College in Himachal.

He never got any kind of musical training but he plays guitar and harmonica. After completing his formal education, he came to Delhi to form a band called 'Silk Route' along with his friend Kem Trivedi (Pianist) in 1996.

He started his bollywood innings when he sang the song 'Khoon Chala' for the movie 'Rang De Basanti' under none other than the music maestro A.R. Rahman.

Professional Career

Mohit Chauhan tasted success when his song 'Dooba Dooba' from the Silk Route album 'Boondein' became a super hit. The album climbed to number one slot and went on to win many awards at Channel [V] Awards in 1998.

He later sang for A.R. Rahman in 'Rang De Basanti' and 'Delhi-6'. His big moment came when he snag 'Tum Se He' from the super hit movie 'Jab We Met'. Since then he went on to sing for most of the established music directors in Hindi film industry.

Recently his song 'Pee Loon' from the Hindi movie 'Once Upon A Time In Mumbai' became a national anthem. He has also sung for Bengali movies.

In addition to singing for Hindi movies, he has also been singing advertisement jingles for many companies like Alpenlibe, Parachute, Wheel and many more.

He has also sung the theme song for 'Star Parivaar Awards 2011'.
